University of Pennsylvania - Graduate School of Education

“Teacher Workforce Trends”

The first of many animations for Penn GSE was to show the results of a recent study from one of their faculty on trends in the teacher workforce. Teacher shortages were an issue even prior to the pandemic, but the reasons and statistics were not always included in media reports. Using recently developed brand colors and standards, the University wanted to help maintain their consistent position as the best university for education in the U.S.

“Planning for Uncertainty”

The pandemic affected the education and mental health of every child in the nation, but it didn’t affect everyone equally. Penn GSE wanted to look at issues of equity and educational disparity throughout the pandemic. What could teachers expect? How could they help close this gap? Telling the story of one student. Marcus, helps introduce the best practices for teachers to help their students succeed in an unprecedented era in education.

University of Pennsylvania - Penn Ahead

“Mislead U”

This project was a tongue in cheek look at a recent study showing how many universities has misleading information regarding tuition costs on their websites. Under the direction of Dr. Laura Perna and with support from Lumina Foundation, this project examined the cost-related information that colleges and universities are providing on their websites.  The study found important limitations in the information that is available on many institutional websites. Some universities are not in compliance with the federal law that requires colleges and universities to make available a net price calculator (NPC). Others are providing inaccurate and misleading information.

Harvard University - Proving Ground

Program and Software Overview Series

Proving Ground “works with school districts to help them identify and test evidence-based solutions to specific challenges that are obstacles to student achievement.” They needed a 12 part video series to not only guide educators and staff through the process and using the software, but also help explain the thinking behind the process. They contacted me after having a couple videos done by an agency, so they wanted to continue the “whiteboard style” look, but have it be a little more professional. Each video in the series follows a three-part format, first explaining the concepts, the logistics of who should be involved, and finally a software overview.
